Yesterday iFixit had started working on the new iPad teardown by dissembling the device they finally got hold of in Melbourne.
Before the iPad release there had been a lot of speculations about the iPad specifications especially the much talked about Retina display and camera. And now after the unveiling it has been found out that the new iPad is using same camerasensors of older products
As it has been noticed in the picture of the new iPad, the rear camera sports a 5 megapixel CMOS Image Sensor which had apparently been used in the iPhone 4 too. The so called Omnivision OV5650 unit used in the iPhone device is nothing but the second generation back illumination technology from Omnivision.
Talking about the rear camera that features 1.75 µm pixels with the DSC quality as required in mobiles, we can see that the new iPad also comes with the same specifications including the 1080p HD video support at 60fps. And the front camera is the 0.3 megapixel Omnivision OV297AA unit which again is the same one that was seen in the iPad 2 as well as in the old camera-equipped iPod Nano.
According to Chipworks Apple has time and again used this strategy of recycling parts into new products in order to avoid any technological risks. Besides that Chipworks has also discovered that Apple is dual-sourcing DRAM for the new iPad.
