iFixit folks are out to get the new iPad teardown. Recently the new iPad was seen inVietnam and Hongkong yet it hadn’t given an exact idea of what lies within.

The first photo of the new iPad teardown now underway:

According to iFixit, the new iPad’s retina display could be a Samsung product and as per expectations the Cupertino is using Qualcomm’s MDM9600 wireless baseband chip along with Toshiba’s flash memory. The battery size has also been increased by 70% which doesn’t exactly sound to be new and different.

iFixit’s email further confirms that the new iPad has 1GB DRAM comprised of two 4Gb Elpida LP DDR2 parts.



iFixit’s iPad specifications through the new iPad teardown:

  • Dual-core Apple A5X processor along with quad-core graphics
  • 9.7 inch LED backlit in-plane switching LCD with 2048×1536 pixel “Retina Display.”
  • Retina Display is manufactured by Samsung while Sharp and LG are in to supplying panels.
  • 16, 32 or 64 GB Toshiba NAND flash memory
  • A rear-facing camera of 5 MP HD
  • 1 GB DRAM including two 4Gb Elpida LP DDR2 parts
  • Broadcom BCM4330 802.11a/b/g/n Baseband/Radio including Bluetooth 4.0+HS
  • Qualcomm MDM9600 3G and 4G wireless modem instead of the 2nd generation MDM9615
  • Qualcomm RTR8600 multi-band/mode RF transceiver for LTE bands
