Many have come, fought with Cydia and gone facing defeat.

The Cydia Store has never really had a tough competition whatsoever. Almost everything is available through Cydia so people usually do not think of anything other than Cydia. Also, many in fact associate the very word jailbreak with Cydia. It’s that popular.

But there’s a new app store on the block. It’s called the iTweak Jailbreak Store. There’s one difference here. It’s web-based letting you download packages from the service right to your phone.

Well, Cydia has been in the front when it comes to finding and installing jailbreak apps. Itweak, developed by @roktheworld27 and @mtamermahoney is trying to steal the limelight for a while. Nothing concrete has been released yet and from the images we found on their official website – http://itweakstore.com/ – it pretty much looks like any other app built for the iPhone.

iTweak would pretty much be similar to any App Store experience. They will surely incorporate the login interface. How far they would earn support from jailbreak appdevelopers is something that will decide on how popular iTweak gets. Itweak, other than the fact that it is a web-service unlike Cydia (which comes as a standalone app), seems to have nothing new. Of course, till the final preview and the release of the app, we shouldn’t be making much of a prejudiced comment here. Still, what do youthink would be different on a Cydia alternative app?
It’s a jailbreak repository alright. It will have many of the jailbreak apps that you would find useful. Would it beat Cydia? Would it stand apart as a Cydia competitor? We’ll have to wait for that.

Meanwhile, here’s what the description from the developers says:
“Welcome to iTweak! iTweak is one of the best places to get all of your Tweaks, Themes, Utilities and more on your jailbroken iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad! We serve as an alternative to Cydia, and the Apple App Store. For more information on multiple different topics, such as security information, our Mac and PC clients, or how to use iTweak, please tap ‘More Information’ below.”

The launch is set to take place within a month or so and no specific dates have been mentioned yet. We’ll let you know once they are officially out – and visit us to know about it and more.
