Muahz.Net Bridge - On February 15th, Hanoi will finish the withdrawal on parking licenses at 262 streets in nine districts. All 262 streets are narrow or the city’s main transportation paths.

Currently, on such streets as Ba Trieu, Hue, Hang Bai, Yet Kieu of Hoan Kiem district, Xa Dan of Dong Da district, and others, vehicles remain parking on pavements and roads.

Where to park their vehicles in such non-parking areas is a concern of the public. To assist the people, the transportation department and the police listed 230 streets with sufficient conditions for parking, which has been under consideration by the city authority.
Many opinions agreed with the reduction of parking lots to diminish traffic jams. However, they requested to arrange substitute parking spaces to ensure the transportation of the people and companies. Lam – the Vice Director of Hanoi Parking Exploitation Company – suggested allowing the parking in some non-busy streets with large enough pavements and roads. She was worried how to monitor and to punish illegal parking after license withdrawals.

To attract more investment for parking construction, the city should create favorable investment conditions and mechanisms for investors such as interest rates, land fee waive, and others. The current procedures are too complicated, preventing the construction and investors from developing parking lots.

In Hanoi, there are about 3.8 millions of motorbikes and 370,000 cars; of which there are 2.3 millions and 184,000 respectively in 9 urban districts. Yet the parking areas of the city in Ngoc Khanh, Dinh Vong, and Nam Thanh Long have the rooms for more than 2,800 cars only. And the parking spaces of all high-rise building projects can receive only 30% of the total vehicles.
