Chatdem.Net Bridge - Residents of the northern port city of Hai Phong have been anxious about the fact that the city's Party Secretary General Nguyen Van Thanh incorrectly conveyed the Prime Minister’s conclusion on the Tien Lang land repossession to local people.
The lagoon of Doan Van Vuon.
In the morning of February 17th, Thanh came to talk about politics with retired medium and high ranking officers at the Bach Dang Club. The talk was mainly on the land revocation case in Tien Lang District.
According to Hoang Chau, 83, a former officer of the Party Committee of Hai Phong, Thanh mainly held that Vuon was wrong in the case.
“I immediately reacted by 4 points: the Secretary General didn’t say as what the Prime Minister concluded. He claimed wrong doings on media. What he talked is seen as disregarding our role as former medium and high ranking officers now retired. As a party member, I request the Politburo to suspend him from work,” said Chau.
Nguyen Khanh Chuan, 87, a party member for 65 years and a former officer of Hai Phong Labor Federation, said that Thanh didn’t mention anything about the Prime Minister’s conclusion, but mainly focused on Vuon’s mistakes. Thanh should admit his followers’ faults and prepare punishment. The Hai Phong Party Standing Committee should bear their responsibilities in Vuon’s case.
The opinion of Chau and Chuan were shared by other members of Bach Dang Club.
On February 18th, some retired officers and veterans – members of Bach Dang Club - submitted a report - petition to the Party Secretary General, the President, the Prime Minister, the Chairman of National Assembly, and the Central Party Committee's Secretariat to express their disagreement with the wrong information conveyed by Thanh in the land repossession case in Tien Lang district.
The report writes “we have been waiting the serious review about the responsibilities of the city leaders about the Tien Lang case. However, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh did not raise any mistakes of the Hai Phong Party Committee, Hai Phong People's Commottee and related agencies.”
The report also says that Thanh expressed points without compliance with the Prime Minister’s conclusion, such as: the media was wrong and incorporated picture from other cases; There was no bulldozer to clear out Vuon’s house. The media did not say any good word about the police and army solders. There was a bad signal here. One retired person did not provide correct information about the case. Vuon’s house was not constructed under the city plan. He did not pay tax and contribute anything to the district while Tien Lang district authority had created favorable conditions for him…”
