Chatdem.Net Bridge - On February 13th, some kindergartens in Long Bien district (Hanoi) informed parents about changing school hours.



From February 14th, the ending time is earlier, from 16:30 to 17:00. This change has worried parents when their working hours remain unchanged, finishing at 17:30.

Many parents have to steal time at work by leaving office early to collect their children. Some parents bring the children back to the office to accomplish their work. This is unavoidable when children’s school time finishes before parents’ working time. Many parents have to pay someone else to gather their children, increasing the family expenditure. Many other parents fall into serious disputes to decide who to collect their kids.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thuy – former Director of Transportation Publishing House, said: “the time adjustment doesn’t help much in reducing traffic jams. It is just a temporary solution. It has caused much mess for the city residents.”

“I think the ending time for kindergartens and primary schools should be re-adjusted to 17:30 to be suitable with the parents’ working time.”

Time adjustment in Hanoi to ease traffic jams

- On February 1st, Hanoi started changing the school and working hours in 12 districts.

The most affected group is school student. The high school students had to start before 7:00 and end at 19:00. The students from kindergartens to junior high schools ended at 17:00 and were under the school management until their parents picked up at 17:30. The ending time for civil servants in the city was adjusted from 17:00 to 17:30.

- Learning from shortcomings of a week adjustment, on February 8th, the People’s Committee of Hanoi decided to change the ending time of high schools one hour earlier, starting from February 14th. Other school levels were allowed to adjust the time flexibly. However, the ending time for these schools was back to the situation before the first adjustment.
