Mac developers have received an email from Apple informing about a new programcalled Developer ID. This Apple Developer ID is a new way that prevents theinstallation of malware on your Mac. It also helps the developers outside the Mac App Store have their apps signed by Apple and that ensures app security.

The Cupertino’s idea of an Apple Developer ID to protect app downloads outside the Mac App Store is truly a good one as this will also work with OS X Mountain Lion’s new Gatekeeper feature which helps the users to block apps even on machines not signed with the Developer ID. Besides that the users can get access to signed apps.

The users can thereby get confidence that their app has not been tampered with and it’s even quite easy to get on with Developer ID by means of automated certificate request tools in Xcode 4.3 or the Developer Certificate Utility. Besides, evendevelopers would get the flexibility with the App Developer ID. At present this newprogram is only for the Mac but it won’t be long before Apple brings it to iOS.
