Apple has just posted two job vacancies on its website for Siri UI Engineers suggesting that it has plans to make some major changes to the voice assistant found on the iPhone 4S. The news is not surprising considering that Siri is still supposed to be in its beta development stages, but it does give us some indication of what changes Apple has in mind for the witty voice assistant.
Apple is specifically looking for people to work on the UI suggesting that a new look may be on the cards for Siri. As the Siri interface is fairly bland there is a lot of room for touching it up. The job will involve making the conversation appear more fluid and intuitive.
More importantly though, the second Engineer vacancy suggests some serious changes to the Siri API are in the works. The suggestion is being made that Siri is going to be opened up to many third parties so that Siri can offer an even great experience. Siri already works with the likes of Wikipedia and Yelp to provide services, but the new developments could allow for a far greater range of features on offer from Siri.
No one has ever suggested that Siri was a finished product and so improvements to the system are inevitable. Siri has received a lot of criticism for its inability to understand some accents, and particularly its lack of third party resources in many countries. The new developments underway should make location based services across the globe much easier when using Siri on the iPhone 4S, ironing out all of the criticisms that have been thrown at her.
