So what exactly is the status of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0? What’s the status of an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S? Can we expect an iPhone 4S unlock soon? And so on and so forth…
The range of questions and the frequency with which we get asked these questions is not just amazing. It’s become quite normal to expect repeated requests on some or the other information about the jailbreak (untethered) at all times of the day. Well, as of iOS 5.0 and above, jailbreakers have had a hard time, yes. It’s not been a great going all the while this time. Of course, there is good news for all of us interested in an untethered jailbreak, but it isn’t a totally usable news as yet.
Here’s the iPhone 4S Untethered Jailbreak story so far:
The first jailbreak that arrived was for iOS 5.0 – and that’s the sequence of course. iOS 5.0 was released as beta for developers long back and since then jailbreak coders have been at work. Very busy. And they got a workingjailbreak (although tethered) for iOS 5.0 running on devices such as iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad and the iPod Touch 4G. iPad 2 is still out of question right now.
When it comes to jailbreaking and unlocking, two names dominate – iPhone Dev Team and Chronic Dev Team. Both the coders are working to get to that jailbreak nirvana – untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S – but it has remained somewhat elusive so far.
But just when we all thought it was going to be very late already, pod2g tweeted – this time with video proof – that the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0 was almost ready! Well, the video showed an iPod booting up to jailbreak – untethered! Of late, he also tweeted that he’s got an iPhone 4S device – and so, he’s on to making the untethered jailbreak work on iPhone 4S too. If things go on as scheduled, we should be expecting a completeuntethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0 in about a week or so (if not days!) and an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S should also be out in sometime.
Once the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S is out, a method to unlock iPhone 4S would not be far – MuscleNerd from iPhone Dev Team is already working on it, and said an almost working unlock was discovered already.
