There’s this little iOS 5 tip which caught my attention. You all probably know that there’s a twitter field in the contact list options. This means you can also add the twitter handle for your friends in your contact list. And you can use this (or tweak this) to tweet directly from iOS 5 contact list!
Okay, so this is how it works:
- You have a friend who has a twitter account – you add his twitter handler to his contact details on your iPhone.
- When you go to the contact details, you can tap on the twitter accountshown.
- That will take you to a new window – a tweet window!!
- It’s a simple tweet window – no frills. You actually get to send a direct tweet to the friend.
The iOS 5 tip tweaks this to be able to tweet directly from the contacts list.
How to Tweet Directly from iOS 5 in iPhone 4, 3GS and iPhone 4S. For this, all you do is create a dummy contact (call it Test, Tweet, or whatever) and add some random twitter handler in the Twitter field of the contact. That’s it!
- Now all you have to do is open the dummy contact (which should be fairly simple if the contact shows on top of your contacts list).
- Tap the Twitter field of that contact!
- The no-frills twitter window opens up automatically – you can tweet right from here, (just remember to remove the “@twitter_handler”)
As to why this method looked interesting, that’s just a preference. If you are tired of opening the entire Twitter app, waiting for things to load and all that, this method could very well prove to be very beneficial to you.
Sometimes, on the data pack, it takes a lot of time for the whole app to load the twitter feed. This method of tweeting directly from the Contacts beats the waiting. It’s plain and simple – and I guess some of us like it that way. There’s one downside. On the twitter feed, your tweets would show up as having been sent “via Address Book and Contacts on iOS.” But, hey, that’s fine with me as long as I am able to tweet directly from iOS 5.
