This is one thing that never ends. Or never seems to end. Android Smartphone or iPhone? Well, the amount of choice has just catapulted with one iOS smartphone and several Android smartphones added to the list. Let’s take a look.
The debate between Android and iOS has always been ever since Android started making waves. While there are people who argue that Android sports the best smartphones – one big reason being the larger screens and the greater freedom over apps, looks of the interface etc. – there are others who point out the stability, sustainability and dependability of iOS smartphones. Well, let’s take a deeper look into the best of thesmartphones and check out how each would compare.
Usability: The entire design concept of Apple has always been based out of usability so there’s nothing much to talk about here. Apple iPhones definitely score a point or two more – and we’ve got some backing for that too. To begin with, Apple smartphones do not come with a host of different iOS flavors. The entire design of iPhones are simple, minimalistic and neat, involving minimum buttons. Android phones are usable too and are quite good in terms of usability, but the level of usability is a tad less. Touch-sensitive buttons, different interfaces and independent apps (with different types of interfaces) spoil the broth a bit.
Battery and Performance: Tested results on iPhones and leading Android smartphones like the Galaxy Nexus show us that iPhones perform far better. Testing happens for video calls, 3G time, standby and calls. One thing that is clear is both the smartphone platforms have their own problems with battery – the recent iPhone 4S battery issue, for instance. But the Android platform has to deal with much larger screen sizes than the usual 3.5-inch iPhone screen. Also, there are quite a huge number of apps and services running on the Android – much more than the iPhone.
Screen Size: Some people prefer it big. At least, bigger than the 3.5” of the iPhone! Android was the first platformwhich decided to raise the bar over that size. Of course, it just got a little too big (Galaxy Note, for example). Still, a larger size is comfortable. iPhone does not seem to have any plans for a larger screen (if you discount theiPhone 5 rumors.)
Apps, Freedom and More: A whole lot of freedom comes on the Android platform and that’s a known fact. Interfaces can be changed, the way your smartphone looks, behaves and a lot of other settings are instantly customizable through apps. On the iPhone, it either doesn’t happen at all, or you’ll have to jailbreak it – both the options not speaking a good tale. When it comes to apps though, iOS leads. By leaps and bounds.
Variety: Android has got a whole range of smartphones to boast of. More are being added to the list. When it comes to iOS though, and quite obviously, it’s always the iPhone.
Well, considering the various points, one can’t just get to a solution here. But the market trend is definitely an indication – iPhones are preferred over Android. Android smartphones are predominantly for geeks but the trend also indicates that things might change soon.
