The nano SIM card is the newest and smallest SIM card made for smart phones and iPhones of the future. This amazing technological advancement is likely to make it into mobile phones sooner than first expected. The nano sim card and iPhones is expected to be a marriage made in technological heaven.
1). Sim card creation:
This innovative SIM card was created by the German tech powerhouse known as Giesecke and Devriant and it was introduced to the market in early November. They are also the company that introduced the very first SIM card back in the year of 1991. This amazing new card was spotlighted in Europe on November 15, and it is expected to take the mobile deviceworld by storm.

They have announced that the first of these nano SIM cardswill more than likely make into mobile devices as early as the first part of next year. Measuring at a diminutive 12mmx9mm, these ultra-small cards can fit on the little finger nail of the average person.
2). The first change in the industry: This is the first time in 20 years that the SIM card’s circuitry has been changed. It bears noting than the mobile user will not be able to alter the size of their regular card by using a sim card cutter as they could with the micro sim card. This new technological wonder, the nano sim, will also enablemanufacturers to design their mobile devices thinner, adding to the cutting edge capabilities of this new sim card.
3). SIM card details:
The thickness of the card has also been cut from 0.76mm to 0.65mm. This 15 percent change has been called a tremendous challenge technically and it was quite an incredible feat considering the dimensions of the already existing SIM cards. The format for the nano SIM card is expected to be started by the end of the year and it will have backwards compatibilities with older handsets and adapters will be provided until mobile devices are designed to be completely compatible. Compared to the average SIM card used, the nano is approximately 60 percent smaller. The smaller size will allow manufacturers more room in their devices for other things such as larger batteries or extra memory. This will ensure that this tiny card can be used with all GSM based devices.

By the end of the year, manufacturer G&D says that the card’s standardization is expected to be used by the European Telecommunications standards. Apple had put forth plans back in May for a similar card, so maybe G&D’s nano SIM card is exactly what they have been looking for. A while back Apple made the statement that they had a desire for a smaller card than the mini SIM, and it has finally happened.

It is also highly likely that smartphones in the future will not use a SIM card at all. They will instead rely on fixed hardware. This hardware will be used by themobile phone owner remotely. Even though it isn’t clear the relationship between G&D and Apple, it is certainly expected that the consumer will see nano SIM cards in iPhones sooner rather than later.
G &D has also said that carriers can begin to offer the nano SIM card compatibilities and hopefully this new card will be a standard SIM used by next year. This way other mobile companies can put this innovative new development into use. It is expected that the next iPhone will be sold with a nano SIM card already in it. The thought of how thin these incredible SIM cards can make new phones is mind-boggling to say the least. Apple is already on the nano card bandwagon, and it is extremely likely that other manufacturers will follow suit. For such a small bit of technology the results are staggering.
